FAQs
- 01
River Metals Recycling is Kentucky’s largest scrap metal recycler. RMR processes, sorts and packages post-industrial and post-consumer products so they can be recycled for eventual use in another product by a steel mill, foundry or smelter.
We are at the heart of the recycling industry in Kentucky, helping manufacturers go green, keeping products out of landfills and conserving natural resources.

Yes, industrial recycling is safe. In fact, at River Metals we take pride in our safety and compliance record. We are committed to keeping all 100+ of our employees healthy and safe on the job, so they can return home safely each night. We prioritize safety for our employees and our community.
Our facility is subject to regulations from the federal, state, and local levels and we are proud of our exemplary compliance record. As a green business, environmental stewardship is a core mission. We are confident in the assessment of regulators that our facility and processes are safe for our employees, our community, and our environment.

Industrial recycling operations rely on force and heat to break down old products—at times creating intense pressures that can generate sounds. Certain items as they are processed generate more sound and heat than others—we have implemented new processes to reduce and avoid the instances of these peak operating sounds.
We have processes in place to minimize operating sounds that include supplier training and penalizing non-conforming suppliers. For suppliers who failed to meet our high standards for safety and environmental sustainability, we have levied fines and suspended problem accounts. We also perform root cause analysis to further prevent and/or mitigate these events.
We recently voluntarily constructed a multi-story sound barrier that obstructs and dampens sound generated by our regular operating processes, including the perceived intensity of peak operating sounds.
- If you could not hear us before, nothing will change. If you occasionally heard us, with this new barrier you will hear less.
We can assure you that these sounds coming from our location, even if startling, cannot damage properties.
